Natalie, the stylish eye behind the vintage decor shop Cat and The Bird sits down with us to discuss her business and buying vintage. 1. What is your store name and what do you sell? My store name is CatandtheBird and I sell an eclectic collection of vintage and antique collectables, homewares and creative supplies. 2. What inspired you to create your business and how long have you been trading for? I started my business back in early 2013 as a way to be a stay at home Mum while having a small manageable business. Having been an avid collector of vintage wares since my teens it seemed a natural progression to continue to source items I love. 3. When shopping for vintage goodies, what should a person look for in the item? When buying vintage pieces it is good to check for authenticity where possible with makers stamps /mark or the provenance or story behind older items. While some age wear and patina is desirable, bad damage or wear can reduce the value or be detrimental in future so always read descriptions to be sure and don't be afraid to ask seller if you feel you need more information. 4. Outside your business, what inspires you? I have always been creative and beside buying and collecting myself I love art and nature. I am inspired by the colours in the beautiful landscape here in Australia. I love beach combing and can spend many hours fossicking along the shoreline. I love to curate displays of collected and found objects around my home.
